David E. Morris: Designs Scenery for Young Jean Lee's "Untitled Feminist Show"

Posted Jan. 24, 2012: David E. Morris, assistant professor of theatre, designed the scenery for Young Jean Lee’s Untitled Feminist Show, which had its World Premiere at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minn., in early January, immediately followed by the New York Premiere at the Baryshnikov Arts Center on W. 37th St. Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, with Hilton Als of The New Yorker calling it, “one of the more moving and imaginative works I have ever seen on the American stage.” David Cote in Time Out: New York opines, “Who said the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak? Both are pretty damn fierce in director Young Jean Lee’s all-female, all-nude dance suite,” while The Minneapolis Star Tribune observes, “while physical nakedness plays a key role in this premiere from New York-based playwright Lee, the seriously smart work exceeds its bare hype,” Charles Isherwood of The New York Times concludes that, “Young Jean Lee is, hands down, the most adventurous downtown playwright of her generation.” The New York run of Untitled Feminist Show  has been extended through February 4th. The show will have its European Premiere in Brussels in May, followed by a fall tour to include Rotterdam, Graz, Berlin and Paris. The U.S. tour will commence in the spring of 2013.
