David Evans Morris: Nominated for Henry Hewes Design Award

Posted August 23, 2010: David Evans Morris, Assistant Professor of Theatre, was nominated for a Henry Hewes Design Award for his scenic design of Young Jean Lee’s LEAR at SoHo Rep, which premiered in New York City in January of 2010.  The Hewes Awards are given out by the American Theater Wing (the same organization that bestows the Tony Awards) to honor designers for work on Broadway, Off Broadway and Off Off Broadway.  LEAR is playwright/director Young Jean Lee’s radical reimagining of Shakespeare’s King Lear from the perspective of the children of Lear and Gloucester as they confront what they have done to their now-absent fathers.  Professor Morris’s previous collaboration with Ms. Lee, THE SHIPMENT, will be performed at the ‘62 Center for Theatre & Dance September 29-30 as part of the CenterSeries program.  He is currently working on Young Jean Lee’s new piece, UNTITLED FEMINIST MULTIMEDIA TECHNOLOGY SHOW, which will initially be developed in residency at the New Museum in NYC.  Public presentations will be held December 16-19, 2010.
